Mule Day

Went to Mule Day today, was a little disappointed in it after all the hype I'd been hearing.  The Arts and Crafts wasn't much, we got to see a gentleman working a lathe to make walking sticks and another with a portable furnace doing some blacksmithing. There was a lot of pickled items and homemade jams and preserves but most of the stall had mass produced stuff. We also got to watch the mule pulling contest couple teams of mules had to start over when they broke the harness trying to pulling the sled, was kinda funny seeing that =). Got a little to much sun as well =(. But all in all it was a beautiful day out to be out and about today.

Maybe I'll keep up with this, this time. Anyway had a decent Easter. Made chicken and dumplings for dinner, been playing Village Life and Poney Vallee on facebook recently.

Been reading a great set of books; The Secret Histories series by Simon R Green, Love the fact that in a couple of the books he has done crossovers with some of his other series. If you like his tales from the Nightside series you'll love the Secret Histories, his Ghost Finders series not as easy to get into. Have also been rereading the Vorkosigan Series by Lois McMaster Bujold.

Oh if I hadn't mentioned it these are all on my Nook. I love it, it goes everywhere with me. =)

Have also been reading a lot of fan fiction particularity by Voracity she has some wonderful crossovers. They cross all sorts of series and with in her own stories as well, I love the Xander conventions, have yet to read about what happens at one but the stories the others tell make it sound oh so interesting.

Gonna have to go though and clear out old information in here soon, but need to check on my Village Life people.

Touch of Honey Bread

This is one of my favorite breads to bake it's great all year around, can be spiced up a bit for Christmas just by adding a little bit of seasonings, I usually add some cinnamon, nutmeg and occasionally a dash of allspice.

Touch of Honey Bread

2 1/2 to 3 cups of all=purpose flour
1 cup of Quaker Oat Bran hot cereal, uncooked. (doesn't have to be Quaker)
1 package of quick-rise yeast
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1 1/4 cup water
2 tablespoons honey
2 tablespoons margarine

In large mixer bowl, combine 1 cup flour, oat bran, yeast and salt. Heat water, honey and margarine until very warm (120 to 130 F). Add to dry ingredients; beat at low speed until moistened. Increase speed to medium; continue beating 3 minutes. Stir in enough remaining flour to form a stiff dough.

Lightly spray bowl with no stick cooking spray or oil lightly. Turn dough out onto lightly floured surface. Knead 8 to 10 minutes or until dough is smooth and elastic. (Great way to some frustration and anger) Place into prepared bowl, turning once to coat surface of dough. Cover; let rise in warm place 30 minutes or until double in size.

Lightly spray 8x4-inch loaf pan (or whatever cooking method you plan on using, I like to turn them into bun and rolls, so might use a muffin pan or cookie sheet) with no stick cooking spray or oil lightly. Punch dough down. Roll into 15x7-inch rectangle. Starting at narrow end, roll up dough tightly. Pinch ends and seam to seal; place seam side down in prepared pan. (Or shape dough into whatever shape you will be making.) Cover; let rise in warm place 30 minutes or until double in size.

Heat oven to 375F. Bake 35 to 40 minutes (if making smaller rolls starting checking at about 20 minutes, will not need to cook as long) or until golden brown. Remove from pan; cool on wire rack at least one hour before slicing (like to have some fresh out of the oven will still warm, the bread doesn't slice very well though). Serve as sandwich bread, toasted or spread with jelly, jam or fruit preserves. (I like with butter and more honey on top.)

Makes 16 servings (depends on how think you slice the bread =).)

If anyone else has some recipes that would like to share please do so, or even if you come up with some other versions of this bread.
